Flu Season is Coming! Learn What I do to Support my Immunity Naturally

Natural immunity has become even more important to me since I stopped depending on seasonal vaccination. I prefer not to wait for an illness or depend on pharmaceuticals. I like to be proactive and prepare my body to thrive rather than scrape through. Here are some of my strategies for maintaining a healthy immune system.

Fix Your Gut

At the end of summer, with vacationing and related indulgences over, I knew I had to buckle down and do some gut repair. For me, this meant reducing my sugar consumption as well as limiting my intake of grains. I got back into my routine of making Bulletproof Coffee (decaf) for weekday morning breakfasts. I blend the following with 1 cup of Bulletproof decaf coffee in my Vitamix:

  • 1 scoop of Dr. Axe's Gut Support Collagen

  • 1 -2 Tbsp Vital Farms Grass-Fed butter

  • 1 Tbsp Brain Octane Oil

For lunch, I started back bringing smoothies.  For my gut repair regimen, I've been adding 2 scoops of the Gut Support Collagen to each batch. Now that it's getting colder, I've been transitioning to soups. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know that I add collagen protein powder to the broth also.Dinner would typically be grass-fed meat, lots of green leafy or cruciferous vegetables. Sometimes I'd add a small amount of rice or starchy vegetable. I've also stepped up my intake of high dose probiotics to support balanced intestinal flora. If you don't need intensive support, Life 9 by Young Living is a good basic probiotic. This replaced Life 5 which my husband and I used on and off during the summer.

Oils

Anyone who knows me recognizes my Eau de Essential oil. I wear a variety of Young Living essential oils daily, but as Flu and Cold season gets closer I start to smell more like cinnamon and cloves. This is because of Thieves products.  Thieves is an essential oil blend that was supposedly developed by grave robbers during the black plague. It is comprised of the following oils:

  • Clove

  • Lemon

  • Eucalyptus

  • Cinnamon

  • Rosemary

Therapeutic grade Thieves smells amazing and  a powerful immune booster. I use the hand sanitizer daily in our home and at the office. I also use the spray to help to detox the on-call room before laying down for the night. Your immune system can be compromised due to stress and limited sleep. I don't want to  catch whatever bugs might have been left by the previous occupant. I also carry Thieve's Vitality Essential Oil with me daily. Young Living Vitality Essential Oils are unique in that they are approved for internal use. I start taking a few drops daily as a nutritional supplement  if I start noticing more sniffles in the office. I also use it if I start to feel like I might be coming down with something. Start coughing or sneezing around me at work and you're likely to be offered some Thieves as well.  To create that warm seasonal scent, Thieves can be diffused in the home.
